Mail settings
You can use the AUSTAR broadband Webmail program to easily access your email from any Web browser.
Use these settings to configure a third party mail program like Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express:
- Outgoing Mail Server: mail.austarnet.com.au
- Incoming Mail Server: mail.austarnet.com.au
- Username: (Your AUSTAR broadband account username)
- Password: (Your AUSTAR broadband account password)

- Access number: 0198 333 241
- Username: (Your AUSTAR broadband account username)
- Password: (Your AUSTAR broadband account password)

Email Setup
Configure Microsoft Outlook Express for Windows
- Click the Start button on your desktop.
- Move to the Programs area.
- Click Outlook Express and wait for it to start.
- Alternately, Outlook Express can be accessed through Internet Explorer through the Tools Menu option
- The set-up wizard should start and begin to guide you through the process
- If the wizard box does not appear, select Tools >Accounts > Mail > Add.
- You may be required to set-up the account manually. Click Create a new Internet mail account. Click the Next button.
- Enter your name in the "Display Name". This name will appear in e-mail messages that you send out.
- Click the Next button.
- Enter your e-mail address as "E-mail Address." Your e-mail address is (username)@austarnet.com.au
- Alternately, you may enter any of your 5 additional e-mail addresses in this area.
- Click the Next button.
- If POP3 does not appear next to the "My incoming mail server is..", select it from the list.
- Enter mail.austarnet.com.au as the "Incoming mail (POP3 or IMAP) server".
- Enter mail.austarnet.com.au as the "Outgoing (SMTP) server".
- Click the Next button.
- Click the Log on using option.
- Enter your login name
- Enter your password.
- Optionally you can leave this blank. You will be prompted to enter your password every time you check your mail.
- Click the Next button.
- Click the I will establish my Internet connection manually option.
- Click the Next button.
- Click the Finish button.
- You should now see the 'Internet Accounts' window and "mail.austarnet.com.au” should appear under the mail tab.
- Click the 'Properties' button, then click onto the 'Servers' tab.
- Under "Outgoing Mail Server", tick "My Server requires authentication".
- Click the "Settings" button,
- Select "Log on using", then enter your Username and Password.
- Click 'OK', then click 'Apply' and 'OK' again.
- Now click 'Close' to complete the setup.
- You can now access your e-mail account through Outlook Express.
Configure Microsoft Outlook 98/2000 for Windows
- Double click on the icon marked 'Microsoft Outlook'.
- Click on 'Tools' in the menu, and then click on the 'Accounts' menu item.
Note:- If you don't see Accounts on the menu, click Services
- Click on the 'Mail' tab, and select the account you wish to edit. Next click the 'Properties' button on the right of the screen.
Note:- "If you don't see a Mail tab, highlight the AUSTARnet mail account in Services, and then click 'Properties'.
- Select the 'General' tab.
- Type in your name in the field provided, and enter your AUSTARnet email address in both the ‘Email address" and ‘Reply address’ fields.
- Ensure the field 'Include this account when sending and receiving mail or synchronizing' is selected.
- Select the 'Servers' tab at the top.
- In the 'My incoming mail server is a' field select POP3.
- In ‘Incoming mail (POP3)’ and ‘Outgoing mail (SMTP)’ fields type mail.austarnet.com.au
- In the ‘Account’ field enter your AUSTARnet username, and enter your AUSTARnet password in the ‘Password’ field.
- Place a tick in the 'Remember Password' check box.
- Place a tick in the box marked ‘My Server Requires Authentication’.
- Next click the ‘Settings’ button at the bottom right of this page.
- Select the option ‘Logon Using’ and type in your username and password, tick the box to 'Remember the Password'.
- Click OK.
- Select the 'Advanced' tab.
- In the ‘Outgoing mail (SMTP)’ field type in 25. In the ‘Incoming mail (POP3)’ field type 110.
- Click on Apply, and OK.
You’ve finished setting up your mail.
Configure Microsoft Outlook 2002/2003 for Windows
- Click on the Tools Menu, and select E-Mail Accounts.
- Click Add a New E-mail Account, under the E-mail option, click next.
- Click the POP3 option on the menu, then click next button.
- The following information is required: User Information, your full name. E-mail address, username@austarnet.com.au. Login information, username and password. Server information, mail.austarnet.com.au for POP3 and SMTP.
- Click the More Settings button at the bottom right side of the screen.
- Click the Outgoing Server tab at the top, and tick the box My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication, select the Log on using and type in your username and password.
- Click the Next button at the bottom right of the screen.
- Click Finish to complete.
Browser Set Up
- Configure IE 5.x and 6.x for Microsoft Windows
- Double click on the Internet Explorer icon located on the desktop.
- Click on the ‘Tools’ menu and select ‘Internet Options’.
- You should be on the General tab. Change your homepage to "http://www.austarbroadband.com.au".
- Now click on the ‘Connection’ tab, the Connection settings will be displayed. This is the section where most of the setting changes will take place.
- Select the dialup setting you want to edit (choose AUSTARnet) and click on ‘Settings’ to configure proxies.
- Ensure that you do not use any proxies. If you have automatic detect proxy or manual proxy configuration ticked, please untick them.
- Fill in the username and password in the 'Dial-up settings', make sure nothing else is ticked. Then click 'OK' back to the Connection tab.
- Select 'Never Dial a Connection' in the radio options at the bottom.
- To complete the configuration of Internet Explorer 5/6, Click on the button labelled ‘Apply’ at the bottom right, and then click on the button labelled ‘OK’.
